Lucknow: Times Now has accessed a sensational video, purportedly of 2017, showing gangster Vikas Dubey admitting to having political links. Vikas Dubey is the key accused in the killing of eight police personnel in Kanpur on Friday. He is absconding after the shocking incident.
The video was shot while Dubey was being interrogated by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) in 2017. In the clip, he claimed to have links with two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs – Abhijeet Sanga and Bhagwati Sagar.
The gangster can be heard as saying that Abhijeet Sanga and Bhagwati Sagar had helped him when he faced police action in 2017.
Abhijeet Sanga has, however, denied having any links with Dubey. “My constituency is Bithoor in Kanpur and people from the adjoining village come to me for help. In fact, several times I have recommended action in cases where Vikas Dubey was supporting the other parties,” said Sanga.
The BJP leader added that Dubey usually associates himself with leaders belonging to the ruling political party.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA from Bilhaur Bhagwati Sagar denied pleading in any case against Dubey. He said that this was an effort to malign his image.
Both the BJP leaders sought a probe into the video.
Meanwhile, a senior police official said that the reward for the arrest of gangster Vikas Dubey has been increased to Rs 2.50 lakh.
“The cash reward for the arrest of Vikas Dubey has been increased to Rs 2.50 lakh by UP Director General of Police HC Awasthy,” said Additional Director General Law and Order Prashant Kumar.
On June 3, the UP Police had raided Dubey’s house at Bikru village, following which the gangster and his aides fired on the raiding party. Eight policemen were gunned down in the ambush in Chaubeypur area of Kanpur.
Since Dubey’s last location was traced in Auraiya, UP borders have been sealed. Police have reportedly confiscated arms and ammunition, including six pistols, 25 cartridges, and 15 bombs, from Dubey’s village house.
In the meantime, probe regarding who tipped-off Dubey about the police raid to arrest him continues.
